On Saturday, Aug. 13 many libraries throughout Suffolk County gathered at StonyBrook University to compete in the 15th annual Battle of the Books competition. Six young adults from the Port Jefferson Free Library Teen Center, who called themselves the Book Busters, had read eight pre-selected book titles and perfected these books for the final battle that happened on Saturday.

Coaches and young adult librarians, Colleen Cheshire and Samantha Winter held weekly meetings and mock battles to prepare the teens for the final accomplishment. Prizes were awarded and metals were given out at the battle and all teens walked out with a huge smile on their face.

Congratulations to Matthew, Abigail, Ryan, Jefferson, Isabella and Ginny!

Battle of the Books needs ALL SERIOUS READERS!

Are you entering grades 6th-9^th? The Battle of the Books is a reading trivia program. Each participant will be asked to read eight selected titles and compete against other readers from over 40 libraries for a chance to represent Port Jefferson Free Library in a county-wide trivia contest on August 14 at Stony Brook University. Meet your Battle Teammates on Tuesday, June 29 at 7:00 PM. All the details you need to know for this exciting program, will be available June 1^stat the Teen Department. You must be able to attend weekly meetings and be ready for a summer of fun!

Long Island Jedi in Port Jefferson!

On May 1st the Long Island Jedi put on a show at the Port Jefferson Village Center through the Port Jefferson Library Teen Department. The L.I Jedi's performance attracted 211 library patrons and fun was had by all. Check out the pictures and video below.
